Alex Brind: Looking forward to sequel
I wasn't sure of what to expect from this book. There was a sense of unknowing of the quality of the book. That's not just because it's your first book, it's the same way I feel about reading books by an author who is new too me, such as Stephen King etc. But I must say I was pleasantly suprised. The storyline was good and had the right balance of likeable and detestable characters, and you set the scenes magnificently, and the story progressed at a good pace. At this point your probably sensing a 'but' coming on. Well, in a sense I'm going to prove you wrong... However, (see I didn't say but) I can't help feeling a bit cheated by the massive anticlimax at the end of the book. I was expecting some resolution, not a 100% complete resolution obviously, but still. It might just be me but I don't like when books or films don't end. Also, I thought the species thing was a bit samey as other similar stories just with different names. On the plus side it was good that you changed the story by the Peralucians having contact with earth through history. On the whole an entertaining read and I look forward to the sequel.

Paige Bryant: Lovely read
Christian, I finished your book a while back and have just came on your website for an update on your blog. Your book was a lovely read, a boy who doesnt really belong in our world but finds an important role in another. The description of the world was brilliant and I found myself wanting to vistit the 'City of Light' just like Joe and Danny. I must say the creatures you involved in the story were lovely, both the good and bad. Malkazore has a brilliant background story and how he makes human souls evil was fantastic! I must say my favorite characters were Sentini Fortella and Ula. Ula because of my great interest in mermaids and Sentini Fortella for his lovely presence and knowledge. A great read, Paige Bryant

Katie: Brilliant Book
I finished reading 'The Enchanted Amulet' an hour or two after I started; I've re-read it twice since and I'm still not tired of it! It was a really good read with some truly wonderful characters, not to mention the varied creatures inhabiting Peralucia. Can't wait to read the sequel!!

Colin Attridge: Hooked!
Hi Christian. Finished reading your book! Thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to the follow-ups to find out what happens to your characters. I certainly was hooked on the story. I was reminded of how I felt, when, years ago, I read the W.E. Johns sci-fi trilogy. You have his ability to vividly create a scene in the head and keep the adventure moving forward at a good pace. Hope it does very well; I'll be watching out for further installments! Incidentally, I was pleased to learn (p.180) that people of super-intelligence sleep far less than others. The trouble is, with me being a short-night person, this probably sinks the theory! Anyway, please don't take this as patronising, but I did get hooked on the story and I do wish you every success with it and the sequels. And I hope that your work - encouraging budding young Croydon authors - goes well. You've certainly encouraged a budding old author to get on with some work!

Daniel George: An Excellent Read
I'm not usually the biggest of readers, but this book was really exciting. The mythology of Peralucia is refreshingly unique and the balance of dark themes with wondrous descriptions of the City of Light makes for a compelling read. Also, Miss Perkins is hilarious!

I read this book in 4 days. Amazing, never thought Ainley was an undercover book writer but he is and a good one at that. I thought the read itself was good, with a developing storyline and a page turner.. =D I really recomend you give it a go even if you don't usually read. Well done Mr Ainley!!
