SURREY, England – Christian Ainley’s first book in The Chronicles of Peralucia series, The Enchanted Amulet, introduced readers to 13-year-old Danny Perkins. When Danny is given an enchanted amulet by his grandfather, he discovers it has the ability to transport its wearer to another world. Danny’s grandfather is then kidnapped by an evil magician and taken to this world, at which point Danny has no choice but to activate the amulet. This is where Ainley’s newest book, Rise of the Nekracons: The Chronicles of Peralucia (published by AuthorHouse), takes off. A high-adventure fantasy novel, Rise of the Nekracons tells a David-and-Goliath story of courage, friendship and overcoming impossible odds.
Danny and his best friend, Joe Tucker, arrive in Peralucia and embark on a rescue mission. They meet a precocious young mermaid, who helps them find the evil magician’s castle. Before they reach this horrible place, however, they are faced with terrifying monsters and fantastic terrains. Nobody is safe and as the clock ticks down, they discover a terrible truth. The evil magician has built himself a new army with which he is intends to conquer this world.
While Ainley fills Rise of the Nekracons with edge-of-your-seat drama, he also manages to achieve the herculean feat of educating the reader in the process. “I started The Enchanted Amulet because I wanted to do something productive for the kids I was teaching at school,” explains the former teacher. “I wanted to give them something that would not only keep them entertained but also stimulate their minds.”
The Chronicles of Peralucia series is also a portrait of overcoming fear, says Ainley. Through his unlikely hero, Danny Perkins, Ainley illustrates the power of self-realization.
“At the start of The Enchanted Amulet, Danny is a bullied, shell of a boy,” says Ainley, “but by the end of Rise of the Nekracons, he has overcome all his fears and emerged a hero.”
